Our fleet member argues that FM contracts are kept or lost in the months between tenders, and that fleet data should be part of the proof.
Bluepoppy has been reading the procurement and FM press on a familiar frustration: contracts lost at re-tender that were, in truth, decided well before the request for proposal arrived. Clients form their view over the life of the contract, from day-to-day delivery, responsiveness and the value a supplier has shown, and a provider that has been reactive or slow to share data often finds the formal bid is little more than a formality.
Its particular point is that the fleet is part of that impression. Breakdowns, missed arrival windows and non-compliant vehicles reflect directly on service quality, while reliable tracking, proactive carbon reporting and visible cost control strengthen a client's confidence. For service and FM businesses, Bluepoppy suggests, fleet is not separate from delivery; in many cases it is delivery.
The practical advice is to treat fleet reporting as a strategic asset rather than a back-office task, bringing uptime, compliance, cost and carbon figures into regular client reviews instead of assembling them once the re-tender begins. A useful reminder for any member holding long-term service contracts.
