Milsted Langdon on Keeping the Family Farm Intact

← The Journal

Our accountancy member reads the new cap on Agricultural Property Relief, and how to avoid a forced sale of land or machinery.

No.20 member Milsted Langdon has turned its attention to the reformed Agricultural Property Relief rules, which since April cap full relief at £2.5 million per taxpayer, with anything above taxed at an effective 20 per cent. For farming families whose land and machinery can run to several million pounds on comparatively modest profits, that shift can mean a real Inheritance Tax bill with no obvious cash to meet it.

The firm's counsel is characteristically practical: plan ahead rather than risk a forced sale of the acreage or equipment a farm depends on to operate. Sound, timely guidance for any member with land to pass on. The full note is on the Milsted Langdon website.
